The human skin epidermis is made up of layers of dead protein cells which are shed off. Molato soap washes the layers of keratinocytes and when it reaches the outermost layer, they become corneocytes, thereby making the cells to lose its nucleus and cytoplasm. This leads to the skin being hard and dry. Other side effects of molato soap is that it binds skin proteins and over hydrate them making them to swell in order to allow the ingredients to easily penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and affect the nerve endings of the skin and the immune system causing itching and irritation.

We have been able to understand that some harsh surfactants used in making molato soap are able to get in between the fat cells of the skin and disrupt the lipid bilayers which are fat cells that surround and provide a protective barrier for all cells and when the lipid bilayers are damaged, the cells become more permeable and vulnerable to damage.
